Interview with Demonic Singularity NFT: Is your Code Corrupted?

We interviewed Sunny (and to a lesser extent, Dan) about the Demonic Singularity NFT  collection launching via our partner Yumi Marketplace on October 23rd.

1. Please tell us about you, your name, your position in the project, your credentials, etc., so that we can introduce you.

My name is Dan and I have been doing the writing for the project. I actually have a BA and MA in Literature, plus an interest in Science Fiction growing up in a house where Star Trek was always on TV.

My name is Sunny and I am taking care of the artistic side of Demonic Singularity. A little about my background - I have a master's in Computer Science and have been working in IT for many years.

2. How would you describe your artistic style?

I would describe my style as " an exploration of possibilities". Like what can happen if you combine a fictional futuristic soldier with a Viking but with victorian era clothes? Because my art is basically AI-based it gives me the freedom to be as creative as I am able to be.

3. What drew you to NFT creation rather than traditional canvas-based art?

The permanent nature and ownership security of the art drew me towards NFTs.

4. Are there any artists who have inspired you? What do you like about their work?

I was always inspired by the work of van Gogh and Edward Munch, especially "Starry Night" and "Scream". It's really disappointing that no one really appreciated his art during his lifetime since he usually showed real-life truths even if it's painful to watch like his painting "potato" where he showed poor people as they were. It is existential anxiety laid bare, and no other painting captures the loneliness of human existence quite like 'The Scream'.

5. How many NFTs will be minted? Can you tell us about the collection including rarity and so on?

So our collection is called "Demonic Singularity.

I was always fascinated by mechanical watches and old machine gear mechanisms. So with AI, I was able to use my creativity to create a hybrid of futuristic creatures with those mechanical dials and gears.

Basically, Demonic Singularity is a Storyline NFT collection of 1071 prototypes. There is a total of 11 prototypes. And each prototype has different classes like commander which is 1:1, Lieutenant which is usually 1 to 3 depending upon the prototype, and the rest are more common. Also, there are 21 cover art pieces that we are using for the featured image for the storyline chapters.

6. Can you tell us about the artistic process behind the creation of these NFTs? Some people might think that AI creation is easy, but I know that’s not the case based on what you have told me.

Yes, you are correct, there is a belief that AI-generated art is easy. But AI-generated art is much more than a couple of keywords. If you are happy with any output then in a way you can say it's easy but if you want to achieve a certain artistic style and a particular vision, it takes a significant amount of time and effort.

But the good thing about AI is that you can play around with different lighting techniques like cinematic, volumetric, etc plus different Camera lenses, aperture, shutter speed, and rendering to achieve your vision. It's like doing certain types of math questions with the calculator as compared to manually 😏.

Of course, working with rarity like we did for Demonic Singularity is kind of similar to any traditional NFT collection.

AI does require a different set of skills like having an experimental nature and active creativity like in any traditional art though.

AI-generated assets offer significant differences even in the same class of assets - prototype in our case. That's why we generated 11 different types of prototypes rather than just one or two.

7. What benefits do you think the Internet Computer has over other L1 blockchains when it comes to creating NFTs?

There are tons of them like a reverse gas model, on-chain storage, no bridges, etc but personally, for me, it's true Decentralization. Hosting end-to-end on-chain. Other Blockchains talk about it but the Internet Computer actually does it.

Also, there is a feature that I believe will make NFT mainstream - the use of credit cards to buy NFTs instead of native tokens. And with the HTTP outbound allowed, the Internet Computer can easily achieve this vision.

I think it will be a game changer if an NFT marketplace implements this.

8. What other art have you seen that excites you in the Internet Computer NFT ecosystem?

I really like Ludo's work - not only because of the art but also because of his humble and down-to-earth nature. He is just amazing in all aspects and sets the bar for everyone.

9. What excites you most about your launch, and which date is your launch?

Honestly speaking besides showing off all the amazing art, personally, I am really excited to read the story that Daniel is going to write.

10. What advice would you give to anyone trying to enter the world of NFTs?

Let your imagination run wild and be open to doing a lot of experimentation and hard work.

11. Why did you decide to launch with Yumi Marketplace?

Yumi is the only full-stack marketplace on the IC, and the site is seamless. They have an extremely competent and customer-focused team who cannot do enough to provide a fantastic overall service. Personally, I believe they will be the number 1 marketplace on the Internet Computer even if they keep doing what they are already doing. That's why I plan to use them exclusively for my future work.

12. Can you envisage a future where the most valuable NFT space is on the Internet Computer?

100%. Since there are many features that the Internet Computer can utilize to make the NFT space mainstream like using a credit card to buy NFTs. For example, events can use the Internet Computer to offer an event seat package as an NFT. All hosted on-chain. From taking the customer information in a secure way to creating and offering seat NFTs along with other perks while using a credit card to reserve it.

Holders can even re-sell that NFT on the Yumi marketplace 😏.

13. Why do you think NFTs have become so valuable in such a short space of time?

Of course, part of this is speculation like with everything in crypto but there are many real case applications and scenarios for NFTs besides just being amazing art pieces. A project can drop tokens and other perks for holding the NFTs so it's like being an investor in a project with art being the icing on the cake 🙂.

14. Tell us about how you will release the storyline NFT? I know you are working with Nuance on a Premium feature for this.

We already released some of the character description articles on nuance. And we will be releasing the plot and storyline in chapters as NFTs on Nuance. The chapters will have artwork and text similar to the already released character description articles.

These chapter NFTs on Nuance will have a limited quantity and a reasonable price tag like 0.15 ICP or so. Only Demonic Singularity holders will have the opportunity to acquire them.

15. Tell us a bit about the Demonic Singularity storyline?

Demonic Singularity is about AI bots that are meant to help humanity but are instead corrupted by code and threaten the extinction of organic life. The storyline will explore deep philosophical questions such as what it means to be human and what consciousness is while looking into a not-too-distant future where AI has become the preeminent technology, but in this case, has become dystopian, realizing our greatest fears surrounding technological development.

Check Medium for the storyline.

16. What is your opinion of InfinitySwap?

InfinitySwap is going to bring about the next level of Defi on the IC by leveraging Internet Computer tech such as Bitcoin integration. I use the wallet as my wallet of choice too. They have been well-backed and funded by large investors and have an incredibly impressive team.
